I think we grew up with some of the best music ever. We had a small stereo at home with a radio and so called dohickey. Karen's family had a grand tv, hi fi radio all in one in their living room. I can still remember lyrics to many old country and top forty songs from back then. Those songs will pop on my head from nowhere. Did you know that Willie Nelson wrote Crazy and sold it to Patsy Cline's husband for the price of settling his bar tab at Tootsie's in Nashville?
I can remember that my Dad liked Charley Pride, Chet Atkins and Anne Murray. My mom had records by Andy Williams, Robert Goulet, Harry Belafonte and Johnny Mathis. My mom would say that she loved to listen to Johnny Mathis but didn't like to watch him sing. Something about the way he moved his mouth that she found weird. We had one of those stereos as well. Always enjoy your posts!
That brought back lots of memories. Don & I bought a hi-fi the second Christmas we were married. It was very similar to the picture you showed but ours was Early American in design. And yes i can remember most of the titles & words to the songs from the 40s, 50s, & 60s. We could also play 45s using a stack post. Our TV was black & white and 24 inch picture tube. It sat to the side on the top of the hi-fi.
Hope Mary does well with her chemistry symbols. Singing things does help. I remember Nora Gleadow leading praise & worship & using the Bible for the song book. Great memories. There are some passages I just sing when I come to them for just that reason.
Take care Bill. I enjoy your writings. βοΈπ«Άπ
That brings back some Great memories. The world has changed so much. Can you imagine how it will look 50 years from now? For instance, how can they make photography and video any better than it is now?? Technology has changed everything.
I too, am a child of 70βs music, and also of the living room stereo cabinet. My parents had a wide and varied range of music, from big band and the crooners to current popular artists and from classical to βchurchβ music-my dad was an organist for years. I still, like you, can remember the words and activities of the time when I hear the music. Love the effect it has on memory!
