Misc.
-We went to Rehoboth Beach the other night to take a walk on the boardwalk and get an ice cream cone. It was a Monday night, hazy, breezy, and… crowded. And school isn’t even out yet.
We sat on a bench on the Avenue and ate our ice cream and watched people. After about 10 minutes I told Julie, “I haven’t seen a single person I know since we sat down and it used to be I would have known at least several people by now.”
Spoken like a true old person.
The changes our area have seen in my lifetime are staggering. They happened relatively slowly I guess, year after year, drip by drip, housing development after housing development.
Rehoboth used to roll up the boardwalk after Labor Day. Nothing was open. Nobody came. You could take a nap on Route 1 in January and not get hit by a car. There was nothing to do in the winter except go to the movies at Midway.
An average midweek Spring day in 2025 looks like a mid-July weekend in 1980. I don’t recognize the people, or the county any more.
-Speaking of being old, here’s a tip that I use every time I travel. When I park at the airport, I take a picture of the parking sign showing which level and which space I’m in. I’ve been doing that for years…ever since I got back from a trip and had no clue where I parked. I’ve started doing the same thing with my hotel room. I take a picture of the room number, since the key cards don’t have numbers on them. One day I may need to take a picture of my name, but so far so good.
-Not to brag, but have you noticed how Earth is on a win streak? We’ve won 71 consecutive Miss Universe titles. The rest of the Universe? Zero.
-We have a lot of ponds (lakes?) in our community, which means we have a lot of geese in our community. I’ve always heard that geese mate for life, and it sure seems that way. They’re always in pairs, and especially during the past month when they’re hatching eggs and raising their offspring. But I always wonder…how do they tell each other apart? They look identical! So how do they know which other goose is their mate? And do they think their little baby geese are cuter than the other baby geese?
-Thought for today:
“You don’t have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body.”

I'm with you on the way things have changed in Slower Lower. We have a nice gift card for the SolDel restaurants and I almost dread going down to Rehoboth to use it. Way too peopley. And it's not just at the beach. With traffic as horrible as it is in Milford already I can only imagine what it'll be like when all the new subdivisions are at capacity. 🥴
