Life Expectancy
I mentioned yesterday that my life expectancy is about another 16 years. I looked it up.
The answer was kind of sobering, and very nuanced, as you might expect.
That will put me at 84.
Here’s the nuance, quoting from the life expectancy analysis:
The average life expectancy at birth is lower (mid-to-late 70s for men), but once you’ve reached 68 and are in reasonably good health:
You’ve already "outlived" many of the early-life risks.
Remaining life expectancy gets recalculated based on your current age and health.
Fun FactIf you’re in the top half of health and lifestyle for your age group, it's not unusual to live into your early 90s.
About 1 in 4 healthy 68-year-old men will live past 92.
There’s no guarantees, of course. But it’s interesting to consider how much time you have left.
It can help you with financial planning, considering health and wellbeing choices, and - I think - make you value the time you have left.
I want to end well.
For me that means being kind, being present, being generous, and serving others…especially my family and friends.
That furthers my personal mission, which I will talk about tomorrow.
If you want to try a life expectancy calculator, here are two. The first one takes into consideration lifestyle and is probably more realistic than the government’s straight up data calculator.

Great to know that I’ll be around till at least 92 and that I can improve on this by changing up a few things. Funny my dad lived to be 93!
Took the quiz calculator…..I will live to 88.
Hopefully by then our summers will be cooler.
