Friday!
The past few weeks have been moving at a strange lethargic yet breakneck pace.
I’m still feeling a bit disoriented.
But the weekend is here and I will get lost in the Ryder Cup, the Phillies and the Eagles.
Life, for me, is a lot about connections. One of my life goals is to connect people to each other, and to Jesus.
A really cool connection happened to me recently when I met two kindred spirits who are launching something that will connect retired people in our area to one another. I will have more to say about this, and them, when I can. But it has been a real blessing to step into this project with them and start using whatever gifts I have for something that matters.
Stay tuned.
In other news, Albert Einstein had a messy desk.
That photo was taken a few hours after Einstein passed away, capturing his desk as he left it.
I feel seen.
That may be the only thing Albert Einstein and I have in common, but research does support the theory that your desk says a lot about you:
Messy desks can encourage unconventional thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
Tidy desks are associated with focus, persistence, and healthy choices (like choosing fruit over candy).
Fruit Schmoot.
Pass me the Snickers underneath that pile of papers.
I love words.
I have worked with some great editors over the years who have taught me that words matter, and a good writer - particularly a good journalist - has to be careful to use the correct word to accurately convey truths.
I really enjoy words that are called “orphaned opposites”. These are words that look like they should have a natural partner but don’t really get used that way.
A friend of mine used one this week: nonchalant. I can be nonchalant with the best of them. But I don’t think I have ever been chalant.
I have been overwhelmed. And sometimes underwhelmed. Sometimes I am just whelmed, but I don’t point it out.
That might make someone disgruntled. And I prefer to hang out with people who are gruntled.
Enjoy your weekend. Go America!

Love nonpareils, but have never had a pareil.
Haha! I love words too! Yours made me laugh. 🤣
